Objective(s): Life expectancy is one of the most important indicators of health and the outcome of various economic, social, environmental and other factors. As health and medical indicators improve, life expectancy will increase. Therefore, this index is considered one of the indicators for measuring the progress and backwardness of countries. Accordingly, the present study seeks to investigate the impact of economic growth and its instability on life expectancy in Iran.
Methods: This research method is a causal-analytical in nature and has an applied objective. The statistics and data about the variables used in this study are extracted from economic time series database of Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and World Development Indicators. Also, Econometric tool used in research is EViews 13 Software and the econometric methods are EGARCH and Johansen-Juselius methods over the period of first quarter of 2011 to fourth quarter of 2023, and the geographical scope is the country of Iran.
Results: The results indicate that in the long-run, one percent increase in the GDP increase life expectancy by 2.13 percent and one percent increase in economic growth instability decrease life expectancy by 11.62 percent.
Conclusion: Based on the results of this research, it is recommended that economic policy makers take an effective step towards improving the level of health by applying appropriate policies to increase economic growth and reduce its instability.
