Objective (s): Attitude toward fertility and childbearing play an important role in reproductive behavior. This study aimed to assess attitudes toward fertility and childbearing and to identify associated factors among female teachers in Kermanshah, Iran.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 171 married female teachers of reproductive age in Kermanshah. Participants were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using the Attitudes Toward Fertility and Childbearing Scale. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data, and univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with attitudes toward fertility and childbearing. All analyses were performed using SPSS version 24.
Results: The mean (SD) age of participants was 39.8 (7.5) years, and the mean attitude score toward childbearing was 3.4 (0.6) out of 5.0. The multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that economic status was the only factor significantly associated with attitudes toward fertility and childbearing (OR = 0.17, 95% CI: 0.03–0.92, P = 0.039). Specifically, the odds of having a favorable attitude toward childbearing were 83% lower among individuals with poor economic status than among those with affluent economic status.
Conclusion: Economic status appears to be an important factor associated with favorable attitudes toward fertility and childbearing among female teachers. Policies addressing economic barriers to fertility and childbearing may contribute to creating a more supportive environment for fertility and childbearing.
