Objective: To compare the sense of social solidarity in persons affected and persons not-affected by stomach, colon and breast cancer.
Methods: This research is an analytic-descriptive study. 106 cases of patients above 14, affected by stomach, colon and breast cancer, referred to Cancer Institute of Tehran, were chosen using classified sampling method. 106 persons not-affected by cancer were chosen as the control group. Measuring of sense of social solidarity is done based on Fesler adapted scale. The date is being analyzed using discriminant analysis and logistic regression analysis.
Results: The results have indicated that the effect of components of sense of social solidarity and its association with stomach cancer is meaningful. The results have also indicated that between the component of family and society of persons affected and not-affected by stomach cancer there is a meaningful negative association. But, in sense of social solidarity, there is a positive meaningful association between economic behavior component of persons affected and not-affected by stomach cancer.
Conclusion: The finding indicated that a special property of a stress-causing social determinant is not a reliable criterion for determining the level of stress and the level of its effect on unhealthy behaviors and consequently affection by cancer.
