Abstract:   (27 Views)
Objective (s): One of the problems of menopausal women is their sexual life and sexual health. The present study was aimed to compare the effectiveness of the PLISSIT model with the sexual health model on menopausal women’s sexual function and quality of their sexual life.
Methods: The randomized controlled clinical trial study with the code: IRCT20230808059085N1 was conducted in 2023 on 102 postmenopausal women visiting comprehensive health service centers in Hamedan who met the criteria for entering the study. The samples were randomly divided into three groups: PLISSIT counseling model (33 participants), sexual health counseling model (34 participants) and control (35 participants). The data collection tools included a demographic and obstetric questionnaire, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQOL-F). Questionnaires were completed in the intervention and control groups before the intervention, and also 4 and 6 weeks after that. After collecting information, data analysis was done using SPSS statistical software (version 24) and statistical tests. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: Before the intervention, there was no statistically significant difference in the mean total FSFI and SQOL-F scores in the three groups. Regarding the between-group results, there was a statistically significant difference in the mean FSFI and SQOL-F scores 4 and 6 weeks after the intervention in the three groups (P=0.000 and P=0.000) and (P<0.001 and P<0.001) respectively. Intra-group comparison of the study groups also showed that the mean FSFI and SQOL-F scores in the intervention groups increased significantly 4 and 6 weeks after the intervention compared to the score before the intervention (P=0.000 and P=0.001) and (P=0.000 and P=0.003), respectively. No significant increase was found in the control group (P=0.577) and (P=0.969).
Conclusion: Sexual function and quality of sexual life of postmenopausal women can be improved through counseling models such as the sexual health model and the PLISSIT model. Given the prevalence of sexual problems, it is recommended that sexual health counseling models, which is comprehensive and cost effective, be integrated and implemented at the first level of primary health services in the national service delivery system.
